Hired to bring change to the organization through the consolidation and harmonization of engineering methodologies, IP policy and procedure, and to re-invigorate the innovation process.  Successfully redesigned 50% of the LiIon battery and charger product line in 18 months, as well as created an entirely new battery and charger product line for the medical industry.  Envisioned, specified, and launched a cloud based battery asset management system.  Other duties include handling the development of special projects through outsourcing; finding and qualifying new vendors both in the US and in China; and establishing company-wide training in areas such as root cause analysis, SPC, and Lean/Agile methodologies.

Provide technical leadership to a team of 15 engineers in the design and development of microprocessor-based controllers used in the commercial and fast food industry.  Customers include McDonald’s, Taco Bell, KFC, Pizza Hut, Long John Silver’s, Applebee’s, and Panera Bread. Hired as a change agent to turn around an under-performing engineering department by creating lean, agile processes that are focused on results. Instituted a more efficient work environment to achieve a higher throughput of projects with fewer people and with higher quality.  Member of senior management team reporting directly to the CEO.
Long-term accountability for creating and monitoring a $2.0MM engineering budget, continuous improvement of department performance, and development of innovation strategies that help differentiate our products in the global marketplace.  Collaborate with other departments including Sales, Marketing, Finance, Quality Assurance, and Operations to ensure clear, concise, and productive communications.  Manage the development of technical and business relationships with our vendors, suppliers, and the technical managers of our customers, while juggling the continually shifting workload to ensure on time and on budget delivery of designs.
Led the successful operational turnaround of the engineering department, contributing to 30% growth in total revenues during the first three years.
Specified, developed, and deployed a custom ECR/Bug tracking system.  Use of this system has resulted in a 50% reduction in ECR backlog and quicker turnaround for customer changes.
Envisioned and directed the implementation of a “Paperless Manufacturing” environment.  This system resulted in a decrease in the use of paper documents and the associated costs of reproducing and tracking them from over 50 design documents per week to fewer than two.
Automated the data collection and testing of various controllers resulting in an 80% reduction of the time required to configure controllers.
Created validation methodologies consistent with quality expectations of our customers.  Using these new methods, reduced bugs to near zero with only a small addition to up front work.  Validation testing results are used for continuous improvement of design methodologies.

Anton/Bauer Inc. is the worldwide standard in video camera batteries and equipment for the professional film and video industry, with annual revenues (today) of $20MM. The company is a subsidiary of Vitec Corporation.
Director of Engineering (1997 to 2000)
Led a team of 15 engineers in the design and development of microprocessor based controllers used in the professional video, medical, and computer industries.  With a $1.1MM budget, directed the day-to-day execution of mechanical, electrical, software, and graphics designs required to produce our products. 
Increased department effectiveness through the implementation of various light weight processes, resulting in an increase of products brought to market by 20% year over year.
By installing agile and iterative design processes, I was able to reduce the number of design issues found at product launch to near zero.
Represented Anton/Bauer at biannual meetings of various Vitec Corporation subsidiaries’ directors of engineering, leveraging talents, resources, and ideas.

Designed and developed new smart chargers and smart batteries for the professional video, medical, and computer industries.  Designed software for Apple Computer Powerbook smart battery.   Directed engineers in a project team environment, providing administrative and technical leadership.

Senior Electrical Engineer
Designed and developed embedded controls used in ultrasonic welders and cleaners.  Designed a system used to measure pressure and meltdown during welding of plastic parts.  Cost-reduced the design saving 25% by implementing a major portion of the system into a VLSI Digital ASIC.
